ProtectDefenders.eu is the European Union’s Human Rights Defenders mechanism. It aims to protect human rights defenders (HRDs) at high risk or facing difficult situations worldwide by providing urgent assistance and practical support, promoting the creation of shelters, and temporarily relocating defenders. It also supports HRDs by monitoring threats, training, financial support, and capacity-building, and it fosters coordination between other organizations supporting HRDs. Its actions aim to strengthen the defenders’ resilience, ensuring they can continue their work safely.
This EU initiative operates through a consortium of 12 NGOs, working in high-risk environments to maximize impact.
