Friends of the Earth International

Friends of the Earth International envisions a world where societies live sustainably and in harmony with nature, championing equity, human rights, and social justice.

Friends of the Earth International is a grassroots environmental federation founded in 1971 by four organizations from France, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Today, they have more than 70 national member groups and millions of members and supporters worldwide. Their mission focuses on ensuring environmental and social justice, empowering marginalized communities, and fostering public participation in decision-making.

They conduct campaigns on urgent environmental and social issues while promoting solutions to create environmentally sustainable and socially just societies. They aim to combat environmental degradation, promote sustainable livelihoods, and inspire collaboration across movements to create transformative solutions for a just and equitable society. Their key areas of interest include:

  1. Pathways to system change
  2. Climate justice and energy
  3. Economic justice and resisting neoliberalism
  4. Food sovereignty
