The Legal Guide for the Defense of Ecosystems and Species of the Peruvian Sea is the result of efforts by the Peruvian NGO SPDA to explain the rules and procedures for filing complaints against activities that harm Peru’s marine ecosystems, including the illegal extraction of marine resources and other threats. It was developed through the collaboration of various stakeholders involved in Peruvian marine conservation and fisheries management. The guide provides a comprehensive overview of (1) the current governance landscape, (2) the main issues affecting the marine environment, and (3) citizen involvement in the fisheries sector.
Given that one of Peru’s major challenges is the management of marine and coastal ecosystems and the species that inhabit them, this guide seeks to strengthen access to environmental justice in these areas and offers recommendations to address the issues covered in the three main topics.
